Daughters of the American Revolution

Volunteer Chair - PR and Media / Commemorative Events
What is DAR?
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.

Most of DAR's volunteer work is accomplished by the grassroots efforts of chapters on the local level which focus on the mission areas of DAR by encouraging members to become involved in these initiatives in their local communities.

Each chapter of DAR is made up of unique women with skills in a variety of areas. This allows me to provide my local chapter with resources and services in regards to marketing and public relations.

My Contributions
Since joining DAR, I have served as Commemorative Events Chair, where I organized or hosted events in relation to notable events in history. More recently I have served as the PR and Media Chair for all DAR chapters in Idaho. In this position I have offered guidance about promotions, recognized the success of chapters across the state, and promoted the deeds of our Idaho Executive Board.

Working with women from so many different backgrounds has allowed me to make connections all over the state of Idaho. Our service projects have not limited my exposure to just our members; it has allowed me to connect with other service organizations, military and veteran service organizations, active duty and veteran military, and so many others.

While some of my contributions might be a simple flyer to invite others to enjoy a free event, other projects promote the hard work and dedication of our members to the local community. Below are a few samples of my work with DAR.
Idaho DAR Forest Dedication
From July to September of 2012, the Trinity Ridge Fire consumed over 140,000 acres of land in the Boise National Forest located north of Mountain Home, Idaho.

The many chapters of the Idaho State Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (ISSDAR) understood the magnitude of the fire’s devastation and adopted the project to fund the replanting of two thousand white pine bark trees at the site of the Trinity Ridge Fire. This reforestation effort was the State Project of Honorary State Regent Rhonda Kren who titled the project, “Let DAR Grow.” The seedlings planted in the Trinity Ridge Mountains mark the first DAR forest in Idaho.

On Monday, August 26th of 2019, ISSDAR and members of the U.S. Forest Service were able to celebrate with a dedication ceremony at the Little Trinity Lakes campground. The Little Trinity Lakes campground is also the permanent location of a plaque recognizing the conservation efforts of ISSDAR. For this project, I coordinated media outreach for the event, as well as submit the story for publication in American Spirit magazine.
Elvina Moulton Memorial
In April of 2019, my chapter collaborated with the Idaho Black History Museum to dedicate a historical marker to Elvina Moulton. Moulton was a Boise pioneer and the city's first documented black resident.

For the project, other chapter members and myself collaborated with the Idaho Black History Museum to orchestrate the event. I was solely responsible for the media outreach for the event; however, we received tremendous support from the IBHM via social media and other digital promotions.

The sections below feature some photos from the event.
WWI Memorial
In November of 2018, the Pioneer Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated Boise's first WWI Memorial, on the 100th anniversary of the Great War's armistice. For this project, I coordinated the dedication ceremony, outreach to media outlets, and invited special guests from Boise and the State of Idaho government.

From the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, this project was recognized for its use of PR and media outreach to promote the exemplary addition of the memorial to the City of Boise.

This project was also submit to the Hermes Creative Awards, where I was recognized with their Gold Award in the Strategic Projects for nonprofits section. The Hermes Creative Awards are sponsored by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. Below are featured photos from the event.
